Knowing Cagliari and surroundings

A tour of the city of Cagliari and its surroundings - a fascinating journey, interwoven with history, nature and urban life. You can visit the old town, which consists of four quarters. At the center, on a hill, it is the Castle district and around it are Stampace, Marina and Villanova.

In Cagliari there are other hills, Monte Urpinu and Monte Claro, which deserve attention because of their nature and lush vegetation. In San Michele there is a medieval castle and the mysterious Tuvixeddu Punic necropolis.

On Poetto beach or in the ponds of the nature park Molentargius-Saline, a 5-minute drive from Cagliari, You will have the rare opportunity to see from very close the pink flamingos, herons and cormorants. Be sure to bring your camera, a play of colors and reflections of the water surface will not leave you indifferent.

On the hill of Bonaria is a temple a Monastery and the Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria, patron saint of sailors. People come here to venerate the statue of the Virgin Mary, whom the waves miraculously brought to shore. Buenos aires, in Argentina, was so named for devotion to Our Lady of Bonaria in Cagliari.

From the courtyard of the monastery, you can access the museum which exhibits ancient artifacts, ship models and votive objects, also paintings dedicated to the Virgin by the sailors in gratitude for the salvation from the storms.
