In Supramonte is a mountainous complex of carbonate highlands that occupy the central-eastern part of Sardinia. It covers an area of 35,000 hectares (350 km?), occupying most of the territory of Oliena, Orgosolo, Urzulei, Baunei and Dorgali, places located along the base of the imposing limestone cliffs that delimit the boundaries of the highlands. These natural borders to the north follow the upper course of the river Cedrino and, towards the south, the course of the Rio Olai.

The height of the highlands is about 900 m. Mount Corrasi with its 1,463 m is the highest peak of the Supramonte, On its territory there are small centers Orgosolo, Oliena, Dorgali, Bounei. Yellow and white are the predominant colors. narrow and deep gorges cut attraverano the majestic limestone walls, an endless series of cavities, caves and ravines, only partly explored, all this creates a unique atmosphere.

In this riot of nature, it is a flora and fauna rich and varied. This "Temple of Nature", among majestic trees whose trunks split remember the power of lightning, live wild sheep, wild boar and foxes. In the steep walls and rugged gorges nest real l`aquila and the peregrine falcon.

Even if the area of the Supramonte looks harsh and hostile, between the cliffs, gorges and canyons, there lived several clans nuragici that only in the territory of Dorgali have left, as evidence, visible traces of 78 villages, 46 nuraghi, 14 dolmens, 40 tombs of the giants, 17 holy wells and 3 megalithic walls of protection, with the village of Serra Orrios which numbered about 70 circular huts and two megaron temples.

Currently the people who inhabit this region live from sheep farming. During the visit to the sheepfold you will be able to taste the original, homemade, local Sardinian cheeses, salami and sausages, open fire grilled suckling pig  and taste red wine Cannonau also locally produced, known as the drink of centenarians.
